Nelson – MLA Michelle Mungall welcomed the Minister of Jobs, Trade and Technology, Bruce Ralston and the Parliamentary Secretary for Technology, Rick Glumac to Nelson last weekend to meet with stakeholders in the local tech community.
MLA Michelle Mungall was proud to show off our growing tech community to her colleagues.
“Here in Nelson we have a vibrant, active tech sector. It’s important for my colleagues to hear how this sector is growing in rural BC and what our government can do to support it,” said Mungall.
Over their two days of events and meetings in the community. Minister Ralston and Parliamentary Secretary Glumac visited with Selkirk College to discuss available tech sector training opportunities; D-PACE, a Nelson- based commercial particle accelerator component company; representative from Nelson Fibre Network; SMRT1, a Nelson based emerging technology company, and representatives of Kootenay Association for Science and Technology (KAST) and the Nelson Innovation Centre.
The tech sector is and will continue to be vital for economic development here in the Kootenays. Nelson is leading the way in attracting tech to rural communities and setting an example of success for other regions.
